One of two unique 'Seafarer's Necklaces', each handcrafted from sterling silver and paired with a deep blue iolite, sometimes referred to as "water sapphire". Pendant measure approx. 5/8 inch across and 1 inch tall Chain measure 18 inches. Iolite is often called the Viking Compass Stone because thin slices of iolite served as glare-reducers and polarizing filters for Vikings. By observing the sky through iolites, the Viking navigators were able to locate the exact position of the sun on overcast days which allowed them to pinpoint their location on the seas. For that reason, I have paired these watery blue iolites with an image of a sailboat like the one in which I grew up traveling.
